For me, it was a good time to make a cup of coffee. And if for some reason, you ever have to reset the device and start from scratch, you’re forced to sit through the video again. You can’t skip the cartoon, and if you back out to the previous setup screen, you have to start the cartoon over. The next annoyance is that you’re forced to sit through a long cartoon where a man describes the features of the Fire TV - something you were hopefully aware of before plunking down $99. Fortunately, the on-screen keyboard provides shortcuts for the most common email services, like Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, and AOL. Your Fire TV will likely be associated with your account by default, much like Amazon’s Kindles are, but if it’s not, you must either log into your Amazon account or create one. Enter your Wi-Fi password (slowly, painfully, with the remote), if required. Setup was a nondescript process, but you notice right away just how much faster the Fire TV is than the Apple TV. In the picture below, I sat the Apple TV plug on top of the Fire TV’s to demonstrate the difference. By comparison, the Apple TV’s svelte power connector plays nicely with everything else. For that reason, I had to unplug not just my Apple TV, but my Playstation 3 as well. Let me stop here to point out my first major annoyance with the Fire TV: the power adapter is huge and takes up two plugs’ worth of space on my surge protector. As such, connecting it to your TV works the same as with the Apple TV: plug in the HDMI cable (my unit came with one), plug in the power, plug in the optical audio cable if required, and you’re off to the races. Like the Apple TV, the Fire TV features HDMI, Ethernet, USB, and optical audio ports. The Fire TV is 0.7 inches (1.8 cm) longer and wider than the Apple TV, but 0.2 inches (0.5 cm) thinner. Set Up Fire TV - Physically, the Apple TV and Fire TV have a lot in common. With that out of the way, as the guy who wrote the book on the Apple TV, here are my impressions of the Fire TV, organized to parallel the chapters in my book. Also, as a reviewer, I was supposed to be given access to Prime Instant Video, but for whatever reason, it never went through. Other than a few device-specific apps, I’m keeping nothing that Amazon has provided, including the Fire TV and controller, which I’m shipping back as soon as possible (though I’ve been unable to reach Amazon’s PR firm to arrange it). The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: $5.46Ī total of $54.61 a smidgen over my allowance. The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 and Part 2: $5.46. Here’s what I spent the money on (including sales tax): Adam and I decided that the ethical thing to do was to use the money strictly for Fire TV movie rentals and app purchases, which led to a Brewster’s Millions-esque situation where I had to spend a lot of money without keeping anything. Presumably, other reviewers got this deal as well. Second, Amazon gave me a generous $50 credit to order content for the device, though in theory I could use it on anything I wanted at Amazon. Both of these are included in the controller’s purchase price. First, the game controller comes with 1,000 Amazon Coins (more on that later) - a $16.99 value - and a free copy of the Amazon-produced game Sev Zero. In the interest of full disclosure, I should note a few goodies Amazon provided. I disconnected the Apple TV from our living room TV and replaced it with the Fire TV for two weeks. Amazon’s new set-top box had more power, voice search, an app store, and even video games - everything on my Apple TV wish list (see “ The Future of Apple TV,” 21 February 2014).Īfter I had a chance to calm down and assess the situation, I was curious to see what Amazon’s box could do, so I asked the company for a review unit of both the $99 Fire TV and the $39.99 Fire Game Controller.

I think it is pretty cool he has had success with instrumental music in this day and age. He has good rhythm, even though he expresses it more inward than as engaging with musicians around him. At the same time you can hear the music change, animal leaders influence (math metal), and it is very sophisticated that stuff he is doing. The tattoo thing starts around 24 years old and gets crazy along the way, but he also takes on more female characteristics, so maybe something going on deep down, not pretentious attitude. I am quite glad he has dropped that subject and admitted his kids don’t care about music anymore, only play video games. The thing that I first heard about was the thing with his kids ear training, and it was like nails on a chalkboard for me, I hated seeing that going on for some reason. The Stiffel company rounded up production a final time in the 2000s, making it very tasking to find Stiffel lamps, increasing rarity and demand for this valuable piece. The Sears, Roebuck, and Company bagged a lawsuit from Stiffel, which ended at the gates of the supreme court in 1964. Several companies imitated Stiffel genius, especially the pole lamp. The pole lamp was also a significant innovation in this era- it had a vertical tube with few stands on the outside. This era saw the invention of popular models such as the patented Stiffel switch, which made turning lights on and off easy- all you had to do was pull down. A common person will never tell the difference. The alternative to that is pseudo 4K resolution in which pixel-shifting technology is being used. However, 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) gaining popularity.Īlthough it is out of the reach of most people because a native 4K projector can cost “between†$10k to $20k. Standard resolution in most projectors is 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels). Resolution directly impacts the lumen output. A bright projector is a necessity just in case. There is no controlled environment in most ceremonies or business presentations outdoor and in large venues. So a little more lumens are preferred because you won’t get the same environment everywhere.Ĭheck out our guide about the projector resolution.įor business: 2000 – 3000. I mostly play games in a bat cave environment with little ambient light, but I also travel a lot and I always carry at least one projector from my collection to play games with buddies on the road or in the hotel room. Less brightness enhances picture quality.Ĭheck out our guide about the lux vs lumens.įor gaming: 1800 – 2500 is normal for gaming because most people game in living rooms as well. You don’t need a super bright picture in a dark room. Home theater: 1500 – 2000 lumens are standard for a dedicated home theater where ambient light penetration is minimum. That is why lumen output for home theater, gaming, and presentations are different. The level of lumens depends on the type of content you are watching. So first we need to explain and understand these situations before we get to the main point. Projector brightness depends on the space, resolution, and ambient light. So the question is, how many lumens is enough for a projector? How Many Lumens Is Enough? How Bright My Projector Should Be. Most cheap projectors with high lumen tend to decrease the picture when the brightness increases. A brighter model can eliminate some of the ambient light from the environment.Ī brighter projector means more vivid colors and a clear picture in most cases, but that can also be a double-edged sword. It is one of the key components for separating a good projector from the great one. Both are directly linked that is why we purchased projectors with higher lumen output for outdoors, and less lumen output for indoors. Higher the lumen output higher the projector brightness. These are just rough calculations based on the ideal light conditions, actual outputs may vary from brand to brand. Light source Lumen’s value multiple by either 0.04 or 0.05 which means 1000 light source lumens equals 60 ANSI lumens. In a rough calculation, LED Lumen’s value divided by 2.4 equals ANSI lumens which mean 1000 LED lumens equals 417 ANSI lumens. How To Convert LED Lumens & Light Source Lumens Into ANSI Lumens If only lumens are listed you can sometimes trust the big brands like BenQ, Epson, Samsung, and Optoma, but it is safe to convert Lumens into ANSI lumens. Only consider ANSI lumens for true brightness: Forget about the lumens if you are looking to buy a projector, only consider ANSI lumens if it is listed. Lumens or LED lumens are claimed by independent small or big brands where ANSI lumen unit is internationally recognized (American National Standards Institute) If a company lists 2000 lumens of a projector, bear in mind that ANSI lumens of such may or may not be the same. Big e-commerce sites stat lumens instead of ANSI lumens which is the true measurement of the brightness of a projector. If the information is 1 lumen, it means white brightness, the actual color brightness is around 1/3 of that lumen. It is extremely important to know both color and white before making a purchasing decision. Manufacturers don’t mention white and color brightness in their specification sheet. Look out for both color brightness and white brightness before purchasing ANSI lumens (American National Standard Institute) is the standard unit in the market which are also called the true lumens for a projector. Projector Lumens are the measurement of the brightness that a projector releases. Took me about three hours to assemble because I had to make a new replacement leg brace. The parts were also very scuffed up from rubbing against each other in the box. One of the ladder leg braces was also missing. The package was received with multiple holes in it. I was very disappointed when I received the package. My plan was to attach the pod to my 4-wheeler with a removable tongue that I built. My idea was to have a portable tower stand with wheels that I could tow behind my 4-wheeler and take home with me at the end of each hunt. The stand in general is great I like it and think this stand could go far if they put more time, replacement parts and design into it. I've seen the pictures from other viewers and I'm going to see if I can replicate what they did. It would have also been nice if it was set up to where you could pull it behind the four wheeler. Would be nice if the stand had a shooting rail and some how be able to put a blind skirt around you to hide movement when needed. It would be nice if they were pull straps coated it rubber to keep noise down. Wish= The stand comes with some ball straps so you can strap things down when moving it but these straps are a little small. The stand can take about ten minutes to put up and break down which is a plus. with the seating I am able to sit for a longer period of time. I like that I can move it around when wanting to try out new places and if I'm going to hunt different property. Good= The stand if very comfortable and feels very stable when sitting in it. Like everyone else, my box looked like it was pushed off the truck while going down the road but thankfully everything was there and not bent. I would get a small rubber hammer just incase you have trouble getting the braces put on. The holes are not lined up so I attached the bracket to the top hole and just strapped it down so it would not move. The back bracket when broke down has two hole so you can hook it to them when the stand is in roll mode. Bad= The connectors from ladder stand to back legs both are not completely lined up so it is tight getting them put in place. Although the linked article is directed more toward shed foundations, with a few minor tweaks it becomes applicable to our case. We’ll also be referencing a more in-depth article throughout. Great question! Building a level playset foundation can be a fun DIY project by following a few simple steps. How to Level the Ground for a Swingset and Install a Foundation A couple more options might be rubber pads, rubber mulch, or simply a level grass area. Playset pads are the surest and most secure way to keep a playset level, safe, and happy playground for your kids. And that’s it!ĭon’t forget to cover the blocks with a cushion or padding for safety purposes. From there, secure the legs of the swingset to the blocks. Mark Swingset Legsįirst, mark off the locations for the swingset legs. Using blocks can also be a simple way to level your playset. Laying down woodchips, mulch, or artificial grass are some ideas. The final step is to add soft surface material to cushion any hard falls. Once the ground is leveled, install your swingset and make sure that it is anchored to the ground. Don’t forget to also level the center of the ground base as well. If the ground is not quite level, rake the dirt around a bit until each side is checked and leveled. Then, take a level and place it on top of the 2×4. You can do this by placing the 2×4 along the side of the level swingset base. Next, grab a 2×4 and double-check to make sure the ground is level. From there, level the ground where needed by removing the topsoil from the highest points. Measure the slope with a laser or string (see how to measure the slope with string here). Keep in mind, you want 6’ of extra space around the perimeter of the entire playset as a safety precaution. Measure and stake out the four corners of the swingset. Swing hardware should be secured with a bolt, washers, and a locking nut of some kind. Never fasten swing fittings with a lag screw, which can pull out suddenly and send a kid flying. I was shocked to see that you can buy swing hardware kits that are intended to be installed with lag screws. Use Nuts, Bolts, and Washers to Secure Swings If you go with cedar, then the screws and bolts that came with the set are fine. If you build the swing set with pressure-treated lumber, you’ll need fasteners that have a corrosion-resistant coating specifically rated to resist pressure-treated wood corrosion: stainless-steel fasteners or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners. Some manufacturers supply their kits with rust-resistant screws and bolts that are intended to be installed in cedar, not pressure-treated lumber, which is far more corrosive. If you opt for a hardware kit (without lumber), check with the manufacturer about the screws and bolts that it supplies with its fittings. There are a few things you should know to build a safe set. The place to start is with hardware kits that supply the fittings and fasteners, but not the lumber, or kits that supply finished lumber, fittings and fasteners. You may not have the necessary cash to make payroll and pay for janitorial or landscaping services. And when several tenant rent payments are late, it can be a major disruption to your cash flow. Learn how you can do CAM Reconciliation in seconds! Invoicing monthly will help reduce income loss due to a forgotten escalation. When you invoice monthly, the tenant knows exactly the amount that they are expected to pay. Missed rent escalations cost you money and create an excuse for your tenant to not pay the full amount owed. Tenants are busy with their own business and may forget that the rent rate is changing due to a planned escalation. While you are likely keeping track of rent escalations that are in the tenant’s lease, your tenants may not be paying that much attention. This is usually just enough time to ensure they make an on-time payment, but not too far in advance that they will end up procrastinating or forgetting. To maximize the effectiveness of your reminders, send them out about a week before the rent payment is due. Even so, sending monthly invoices gives tenants one less excuse for missed or late payments. Invoicing monthly can help! If you'd still want to do that - buying a Steam Link, and a Steam controller would actually be one of the best ways to realize that (when streaming from a PC). The solution most people want to use (stream my (smartphone/pc) screen onto my tv settop box) is actually the worst one. That way you also don't need to do the useless transcoding (that gives you framerate issues). The second best solution is building a Home Theatre PC, and controlling it via something like Synergy ( ) from a Laptop of your choice. Imho thats the best solution to tackle this, if you've got the time to go through the 'complicated looking' thread I've linked you (and created in this forum), preferably you also have a rooted android phone, then you can do all of that from your phone and your laptop interchangeably. My solutions depend on Android Set Top boxes running Kodi, and a Macbook Air to navigate. So in my case - I have my entire setup set up, so that I can control my Android TV box (not an Apple TV ) from my Macbook, that I can hand over any videolink from my macbook, and then can close it up, have it go into standby and the streaming video is still streaming on the settop box natively. (- fifth might be aspect ratio (if your PC sports a 16:10 monitor, and you want to stream on a 16:9 TV, most of those 'PC apps' are "most easy" for the novice user, so resolution switching might be beyond their capabilities. (- fourth is, that you have to actually reencode and decode video in realtime, which for many usecases (watching video) simply isn't needed). third is, that your PC has to run all the time, while you are doing something on your TV - and with modern set top boxes, this simply isn't needed anymore (if your usecase is video watching). second is framerate mismatch- so most of those streaming solutions will stream your screen at 60fps, while most movies usually play at 24fps, causing - judder (skips while panning), thats actually why I wont use any of those solutions myself first is lag (so its not suitable for gaming), because the video feed usually needs to buffer, and they arent as cutting edge as some nvidia encoding solutions. Macbooks as well as PCs are open by default, so you don't need to jailbrek those either to install third party programs. Those programs usually have reverse engineered the Airplay protocol so they act as any Macbook would, initiating the same streaming feature. You should not need to jailbreak your device. |
